What You Need To Know When You Plan To Travel To Hawaii During Covid-19

Since January 4, the completion of a health questionnaire before departure is no longer be required. Travelers who wish to be exempt from the five-day mandatory quarantine must submit the same documentation as is currently required.

All restrictions on intercounty travel have been lifted, meaning no pre-travel testing or quarantining is needed for travel between the Hawaiian islands.

With roughly 160,00 cases and 1,100 deaths reported as of January 14, Hawaii has seen relatively low Covid numbers compared with other US states. It maintained some of the strictest travel measures of any state.

Hawaii began easing restrictions earlier this year, but the spread of the Delta variant over the summer spurred the state to once again tighten up on gathering sizes. Those have been loosened again.

As of today, statewide indoor social gathering restrictions were lifted and statewide indoor mask mandates remain in effect. Since December 1, higher limits on gatherings and restaurant capacities are allowed county by county. Safe Access O’ahu eased some of its restrictions on December 1, as did Maui County starting January 24 (the date has since been changed from January 8).

The risk of infection is very low and travelers can expect a normal experience — at least to the extent that we know it now, given the rapid evolution of Covid-19 — but Hawaii will continue to monitor travel measures and update as needed.
